AEW: Fight Forever

I think what we all actually want is a call back to All Stars not No Mercy.

As someone who has recently played All Stars through emulation on the SteamDeck… no, at least that’s not what I want.

Minor tweaks could have this game being a 2023 version of Virtual Pro 2/No Mercy. That’s what I want. I don’t think anyone has clamored for a spiritual successor to All Stars. If they have, that’s fine, but this is so wildly far away from that. Fight Forever is exaggerated compared to 2k23’s “realism”, sure, but it’s not All Stars levels. And I don’t know that me, personally, would even want that.

This is the game *I* want, but with some changes to the AI, deeper customization (it’s right there in every store description of the game ffs) and tweaks to RTE.

The whole idea of not yet anyway is one of my least favorite ideas of modern gaming. Of course I like that games can be fixed later, which if this were the N64 Era that couldn't happen, but I feel as if we some times use that to let a subpar product get a pass. If a game like God Of War or Even WWE 2k came out and sucked nobody would be letting them slide.

I actually do like the entrances being short, but seeing so many already do multiple playthroughs of the story mode makes me feel as if there's just not enough meat on the bone for me at least to justify the purchase. It's a bummer because there is market for more wrestling games. I think what we all actually want is a call back to All Stars not No Mercy.

Nope, I was definitely looking for more of a callback to No Mercy, not All Stars.

Playing through a bit now. One thing I will say is that I like how they allow for custom button mapping. Made Y run, A grapple, X punch, and B Kick on the switch controller and it feels a bit more fluid for me.

Powerhouse Hobbs is a BEAST. I steamrolled Miro in a couple minutes. The nostalgia of the control scheme is strong.

I spent all day yesterday getting used to the controls, but after seeing some of what other people did for button mapping, I think I might play with that a bit too. The gameplay feels like No Mercy, 100%, and I'm loving it. The controls though, were definitely not feeling the same, but other people suggesting different layouts has me thinking that can be fixed.

Don't get me wrong, the controls are fine if you're picking up for the first time and have no expectations. Just, for a No Mercy love-fest, a lot of buttons were not at all where I would have expected them to be.

Like I said, the gameplay is exactly what I anticipated when they started talking about the THQ/AKI n64 influence. Now, let's get some more shit fleshed out like actually being able to customize existing wrestler attires, loading up the CAW suite more appropriately and some type of other mode to help with single player replayability.

Just had a an absolute blast in a really even back and forth online match as Omega vs Punk. Completely devoid of all the nonsense running grapple spamming nonsense I encountered every time I tried to play 2K online the last edition I owned. If online play can stay consistent like this, I’ll definitely be satisfied.

Also from what I read ya know how they come out together at the start of the video? Well they don't do that in the game! Apparently you have to go into the menus and create that yourself

Yeah just did Bucks vs. FTR a few minutes ago and they had two solo entrances. Pretty lame.

Was creating Sam Strong and was just about to do the move set and it crashed on me. <_<

I’ve had crashes on the move set part and currently crashing on the exhibition match opening 🤷🏽‍♂️

apparently it’s a ps4 issue and can be temporarily fixed by playing offline

Did you make them a team in the create mode? Because FTR and the Hardys aren’t automatically made into teams just because you own them. A weird thing is that the Hardys or Hardy Boyz isn’t a call name for tag teams.

Same thing with alternative attires in the store. You have to go to edit attire and make a preset for Britt, the Bucks and for Broken Matt Hardy.

Yuka Sakazaki has become the breakout star of my game. The AI is an absolute unit as her. It’s pretty cool how vocal her character is in the ring too. She won the TNT Title in a triple threat against Nyla and Jade (me) in pretty handy fashion. I challenged her as Jade in a singles match and she mopped the floor with me (Jade is clunky as hell to play as btw.) After wrestling a few matches as Statlander, I tried to take the title off Sakazaki once again and had the most fun back and forth match yet. Match ended as I connected with The Big Bang Theory but somehow the AI did a flash roll up and stole the pin!

Online play has continued to be pleasant as well and I’ve only run into a couple instances where an opponent will quit just as I’m about to beat them.

Trying RTE again, this time with Malakai Black. Won the Casino Battle Royale, ended up winning the World title. Next week no sign of the belt or reference to the character as champion (same thing happened twice in my first play through after winning the TNT and Tag Titles).

That's the big thing I'm not a huge fan of in RTE. You win a title to close out a story, and then move on to the next story. That part is fine, but it would be nice if that next story was a title specific story, or gives you the option of vacating the belt you won to try something else.

I figured branching stories might include you defending a championship, but once you finish a story, you just move on to the next one.

Maybe that's something they can add with content updates. It's really just a mild annoyance for me, but it would be nice to be able to defend the belts you win and that could add a lot of potential stories to the RTE mode.
