Admin Lineker Posted August 17, 2017 Author Admin Report Share Posted August 17, 2017 I thought that Ferrari and Merc had already ruled it out completely. And aren't Cosworth coming back soon (again)?
JasonM
Cossie have been rumoured to return around '21 or so at the very earliest, so that's still a good 3.5 seasons away from today. Same goes for the VAG brands and the other rumoured engine houses. Honestly at this point as McLaren i'd just bear with the shitness for how long it might be. Let a guy like Alonso go if he can find a better seat, and simply focus on getting the engine there before hunting down talent. Unless they're really pressed for money from the worse prize money payouts, they'll be fine being shit for a while. McLaren is and will be a historical and beloved racing team, a season+ of suffering won't change that. Ferrari had a worse drought in the 80s and early 90s, and they're still the greatest racing team in history. JasonM
Also McLaren have retained Stoffel Vandoorne for next year, which is good on them because he's talented and hasn't gotten a chance to really show it in a car that needs a top 3 driver to be anywhere near a top car. JasonM
That's a crazy rumour if true. But I don't see Williams having nearly enough pace to actually make a difference next year. So it would be effectively a horizontal move that does nothing for Alonso's winning chances.
Admin Lineker Posted August 26, 2017 Author Admin Report Share Posted August 26, 2017 Well, it's an upward move in that he gets a Mercedes engine rather than the unreliable Honda...

Having said my reservations, Paddy Lowe joining Williams in the past off-season might mean they are going to fix up their poor chassis and actually get a competitive package going. But Williams F1 has for a long time had a 'speed above all' culture, and in an era where downforce is king makes them woeful on all the tracks that you can't go all out on. Adam
Verstappen's car conks out on him AGAIN. Such a shame, this in his 'home' race as well. Between that and Alonso dragging a tow truck round getting passed every lap, this truly is the era of disappointment in F1. "No more radio the rest of the race!" snipes Alonso to his engineer He'd be an idiot to stay with this team next year, will be so sad if he goes to IndyCar. Gazz
Alonso is fucking steaming. But also because it's a world class driver in an absolute shed of a car.
Adam
The Force Indias have smashed into each other yet again, Perez lost his wheel, Ocon lost a big chunk of his wing and now there's a safety car. Idiotic.
Katsuya
Perez really fucked it up. Ocon's said he didn't mind the first one so much (and TBF, they were going three wide). But the second was inexcusable, that was Schumacher-Barrichello level of dangerous, if not more so.
Admin Lineker Posted August 28, 2017 Author Admin Report Share Posted August 28, 2017 Perez and Ocon are now no longer allowed to race against each other and have been threatened with possible race bans if there are any more similar incidents. 21 hours ago, Gazz said: Alonso is fucking steaming. Adam
It's such a shame, seems there is great teamwork there too, Vandoorne towing Alonso at Spa and now they'll swap as Alonso is taking the grid penalty in Monza. You have a world class driver, a top line chassis yet the dog of an engine renders it all near enough pointless. By the time they get back to the top of the grid Alonso will probably be long gone and this slow, sloe process will benefit someone else instead. Katsuya
Ferrari well and truly shit the bed there, then. Also, Stroll and Ocon 2 and 3 on the grid HYPE.
Adam
They should make it rain at every race for qualifying, about time the grid looked interesting. I do think it's a shame that Red Bull qualified 2nd and 3rd but will be at the back of the grid. Those grid penalties are stupid, you get a situation later in the season like now where a third of the grid is starting from the back. Lance Stroll on the front row though, magnificent. Katsuya
Speaking of ridiculous grid penalties, Perez, Grosjean and Vandoorne have now all taken some too. The way it works out is that Perez - who qualified 11th - takes a five place grid penalty and starts 12th. And that Magnussen and Ericsson, who both got knocked out in Q1, start 9th and 10th. 1
