The Buscher
I know they were bracing everyone for big omissions and the Yuka/Abadon additions made me think it had changed. Not so, as reportedly FTR were scheduled for the game but got pulled out.

Kinda shitty of them to take out one of the most prominent and popular teams in the company to be part of what will almost definitely be a paid dlc.
RazorsEdge
Yeah the best tag team in the world in 2022 is definitely going to be in the game one way or the other. It is unfortunate that it looks like it'll be DLC.
Hellraiser
Weren't there reports that there was some kind of conflict between Kenny Omega and Yukes a while back? Maybe the decision to cut some of the bigger names and release them as DLC was played into that as well? I understand they probably had to make some tough calls about the roster but can you imagine WWE releasing a game making, say, the Uso's DLC?
apsham
They were in WWE 13 to be pedantic.

RoHitman Reigns
Regarding FTR being pulled from the game. Quote FTR responded to the fan backlash over AEW Fight Forever removing them from the game: Source: Louis Dangoor of Give Me Sport "For us, the only real issue is we were kind of blindsided by it. We found out, not how you would expect. When you find out something like that, something major like being taken out of a video game, your mind automatically assumes the worst. For us, it was like, 'is this something we need to worry about? Should we read between the lines here. Were we not told for a reason? Now that we are aware and we are out, what is that reason? Is it something we should worry about?' We got an answer, it made a lot of sense, a very logical answer. Okay, cool, as long as we don't have to worry about it, non-issue. That's what it was. We've known about it since May, June, I don't know how long, but for months. The fact that it came out yesterday, no idea why. Don't know exactly what happened yesterday, don't know why it just now became a headline, but we've known about it for a while, we got answers on it a while ago and for us, it's not even an issue or thought about," said Cash. Dax added, "The headline (for this) can be, 'FTR is not upset, FTR does not blame anyone for pulling us out of the game.' We heard about this, I want to say March, it was before the Briscoes match (at ROH Supercard of Honor) and we heard about it a long time ago. I had someone message me, one of the journalists messaged me and said, 'Is this true?' I thought I did respond to him. The first thing I did is text Cash, obviously. 'Have you heard about this?' 'No, let's text Tony (Khan) and find out.' We text Tony, we went through the right chain of commands. We text Tony, talked to him. Legal texted us, talked with them a bit, we got our answer, and it was a non-issue. We wanted to make sure we weren't doing something wrong and if there was something we could do to correct that, let us know. Months later, this article comes out, I couldn't believe it didn't come out in March. It blindsided both of us. I don't care to be in the video game. My worry is leaving a legacy, having fun with my best friend, and on top of all that, taking care of Maria [Wife] and Finley [Daughter]." Fightful reached out to Dax in June regarding FTR not being in the game. Fightful didn't get confirmation from people working on the project until Sunday. Many fans were upset that FTR would not be part of the initial release, leading to plenty of online discussion regarding the news. When asked if it felt good to see people stick up for FTR and wanting them in the game, Cash said, "Yes and no. It's awesome to know that people care about it that much, but to see the side that does and the side that doesn't going back and forth and having all this unnecessary blame and talking really poorly about one side or really poorly about the other side when really it should be a non-issue. I love that they're upset, as far as they care about us, but I really hate the toxic environment it creates between people fighting over it because it isn't an issue and hasn't been. It's cool they care about us, but I hate that it has to come at the expense of people fighting too." Dax gave his perspective, saying, "For me, it was very cool, and I'll tell you this because I've told a lot of people this about us turning babyface. For so long in my life, before my wife, I didn't feel loved, as corny as that sounds. I don't think I knew exactly what the feeling of real love was because I never felt it. I had best friends and a great mom and dad, but my dad was a hard ass, he's apologized since I've had my daughter, but he was a hard ass and never really showed me that love and affection. My mom was working all the time too so we never really got to connect. We were together but we never got to connect. I don't think for so long that I knew what real love was. When we turned babyface, I got real love from the fans. That was the coolest thing to me. I'm embracing this babyface turn. I don't care if that's corny. To log on and see so many people upset that we had been pulled, it made me feel good. That's love."
Hellraiser
The most important part here is that there might be no Community creations. Community Creations play a big part in the longevity of modern WWE games for even if the roster might be outdated, you could be sure that within weeks you can download a bunch of CAWs of the missing wrestlers that look just as good as, and in a lot of cases even better than, the official models. The lack combined with some big names missing from the roster could be a deal-breaker as I'm not sure that people would be willing to go back to look for CAW-formulars and then build those wrestlers themselves like they had to in the past. King Ellis
That's gonna be a lot of attention on the modding community then. If they can figure out a way to make CAWs shareable/installable then that's going to make the PC version the preferable one to get .
Dang117
For someone who put a lot work into the AEW games side of things, seems pretty gutting for Evil Uno that he won't make the initial cut
Hellraiser
Hagar, Santana & Ortiz not being in is weird as well. Isn't the story mode supposed to be all about the early days of AEW? The Inner Circle was a big part of that.
DFF
Tbh, as long as the base game is solid, I'd be fine with them adding more features and wrestlers as semi-reg DLC. Like, FTR, The Acclaimed and Private Party could be a tag team pack. etc
BuddyAwesome
I'm probably going to get this day one still because I want to support and more wrestling games isn't a bad thing but, I'm not sure. The more I read and see on it, just doesn't seem we're going to be getting much of a game especially for a full $60 price tag. I know they're not releasing much and are preparing for roster exclusions but have they even said how many wrestlers will be playable? K
I quite liked building wrestlers, even if I'm just following a guide, so the lack of character imports is not a deal breaker for me.

9 to 5
It honestly sounds a bit of a mess of a game but one that will be much better down the line. Not having CAW and half the roster coming out later as paid DLC is a real kick in the teeth for me.
BuddyAwesome
To be honest I think what frustrates me the most with it too is we all know if WWE did that with the roster it would be deemed unacceptable. If 2k22 had said The Uso's and New Day will be in the game, after a few months as paid DLC the reaction would be very different. I don't mess with community creations and don't enjoy creating the wrestlers any more outside of the story mode, so I'm ok with that personally. It just seems we're going to get a lot less of a game, for the same price, yhan what we expect from the competition. It makes the game and AEW seem a lot more "less than" WWE instead of different than or equal to. I love the graphics of the AEW game and I know they're going for the No Mercy style with the less realistic graphics, but I really think they're leaning too into a niche here, especially because there's just going to be a lot of people cut out. Especially considering they're featuring Owen Hart in the game which, I mean it's cool but realistically the Owen Hart they're able to present isn't even going to be in any attire or style anyone playing likely ever even saw.
