Sky Bet Football League thread 2015/16

Has anyone seen Trevor Kettle (the league's worst ref) pull off perhaps his most ridiculous moment yesterday? An Accrington player was shooting on goal, and it went in, and as the ball was travelling into the net he blew up for half time!. The goal didn't count. How can anyone justify him being a professional referee after that, even ignoring his decade odd career of totally ridiculous decisions.

Finished 0-0 I think. Unless the rules have changed, he technically made the right decision to blow for half time. Regardless of what's happening in play (unless it's a penalty), the ref should blow up once the added time is up.

Have you seen it? It isn't like he blew as the ball was coming into the box or anything, there was literally a shot on goal, going in, and he blew the whistle as it crossed the line. It is utterly ludicrous.

True but it's one of those things that should be (and 99.99% of the time is) applied with common sense. What do you gain from doing that apart from making yourself the centre of attention? That is something Kettle has always loved doing.

Bolton Wanderers say Football League officials have conditionally approved a sale of the club.

Bolton issued a statement after a specialist judge gave the club more time to pay a £2.2m tax bill and refused to grant a winding-up application by HM Revenue and Customs.

The registrar Clive Jones had analysed evidence at a high court hearing in London and said the case would be reviewed in two weeks.

Tax authority officials had asked for Bolton – who slipped to the bottom of the Championship on Saturday after losing 2-1 at Leeds – to be wound up after complaining the club had not paid a £2.2m bill.

However, a lawyer representing Bolton said “significant progress” had been made in sale plans.

“The club have received conditional approval to the transfer of ownership from the Football League,” a Bolton spokesman said in the statement.

“The board would again like to thank all staff at the club for their loyalty and unfaltering commitment to the cause through this incredibly difficult period.”

Why have I travelled down from Newcastle to watch us lose 2-0 in the rain at Scunthorpe, and play like a group of people not AT ALL interested in winning a fucking football match. We are getting relegated this season, no question about it.

Why does anyone kick themselves in the balls?

Is it wrong that my reaction to winning the last 2 games is bordering between "couldn't care less" and "actually, I sort of wish we'd lost"? There are about 4 people at our club that I actually like, I'd be quite happy for someone to takeover the club and immediately sack everyone not named Lewis Cook, Alex Mowatt, Charlie Taylor or Lewie Coyle.

It's not wrong at all. I have the exact same feeling at the moment. Antenucci and Doukara are both playing quite well at the moment, but I agree with you completely. Somebody needs to come in an sort something out. ASAP.

Bolton Wanderers have announced that the Sports Shield consortium has completed its takeover of the club.

Sports Shield, fronted by former the Bolton striker Dean Holdsworth, and Inner Circle, owned by Ken Anderson, have taken control of Eddie Davies’ 94.5% controlling share of Burnden Leisure. The remaining 5.5% of the shares will remain with individual shareholders.

A statement on the club’s website said: “Bolton Wanderers Football Club is delighted to announce that a deal between Sports Shield, Inner Circle and Eddie Davies to transfer ownership of the club has officially been completed. All documentation has been signed, submitted and ratified by the Football League.

“Dean Holdsworth and Ken Anderson will both join the board of directors at Bolton Wanderers, with details on further roles to be announced in due course.

“In acknowledgement of his contribution to the club, Eddie Davies, who initially joined the board of directors at Bolton Wanderers in 1999 before then becoming majority shareholder in 2003, will become honorary president of the club.”

Holdsworth, who becomes Bolton’s chief executive, hopes the deal will give the club a lift and he has not given up on Neil Lennon’s team in their battle against relegation, despite Wanderers being bottom of the table and 10 points from safety with 10 matches remaining.

“On behalf of Sports Shield I would like to thank Mr Davies for his dedication and contribution to Bolton Wanderers over many years,” said Holdsworth in a statement. “We are of course pleased that Eddie will remain as honorary club president of Bolton Wanderers.

“We would also like to thank the staff, fans and club sponsors for their continued support during what has been an incredibly difficult period for all involved. Securing the club’s future was of paramount importance. This is a great day for Bolton Wanderers football club and Sports Shield.

“We very much hope that we can build on the continued support of a club steeped in history for many years to come. We will not give up the fight of maintaining our Sky Bet Championship status. We believe we have a group of excellent players to work with and we hope that today’s news will give everyone a lift, both on and off the pitch.

“The performance and atmosphere against Ipswich Town was excellent and we hope that the fans will join us for an important game at the weekend against our local rivals Preston North End. Up the Trotters!”

There have been rumours tonight that Aitor Karanka is leaving Middlesbrough. He reportedly walked out of a team meeting and told the players he didn't want to manage them anymore.

Turns out my 'Rafa can only get a parmo if Karanka leaves Boro' post inadvertently had a bit of weight to it, if only Rafa had held off on signing the contract with Newcastle an extra day :shifty:

(Follow up to this from last night, Karanka is not going to be in the dugout for Boro's next game, Steve Agnew takes charge when they play tomorrow)
