Even if there is contact from the defender, Bale clearly goes down after tripping himself up there.

The only clipping of the leg I can see is him kicking himself and then falling over

On the gif it looks the the defender clips Bale's right leg and that knocks it over the back of his other leg, and that's why he trips up.

There is a modicum at least of truth in it though. Not once since last night's game have I heard anyone say Bale dived for that penalty, when it's clearly one of the worst diving offences of the season. If Welbeck, Bale or Young do it it doesn't seem to matter nearly as much as when Suarez or Torres does it.

I'm not convinced at all, maybe Andy Townsend is simple but Colin Hendry was all over Bale on Soccer AM this morning, and I can't say I've seen Torres being targetted anymore than Ashley Young.
