This is all nonsense anyway. Why shouldn't he want to move to the best club for the most money? He's not Captain Fantastic, Mr. Liverpool Stevie G, who showed no hesitation in putting transfer request to get more money by the way. He was born and raised in Jamaica and London. He's not a Liverpool fan and they poached him from QPR as a 15 year old.

He has every right to move on and get the best move for him, for financial and footballing reasons. On the open market he'd easily get £200,000+ a week and have a better chance to win a trophies. Why should he take less to stay at Liverpool?

That's the thing though, he still has two years left after this season, he's only 20 and he's on £35k per week. The club have no reason to sell him if they didn't want to, and they might even get more for him in compensation if they let his contract run down and he moves to London on a 'free.' The club are holding all the cards in this situation.

Really? Raheem Sterling would "easily get £200,000+ a week". There are probably no more than a dozen players on that kind of money and apart from Falcao, Sterling isn't as good as any of them.

If he moved he'd go for ludicrous money and as a result his agent would have every right to ask for and get £200k.

Whether he deserves it or not is irrelevant, he'd get it on the open market.

£40-50mil range? Hard to tell how much a role the contract will play in determining the valuation. He's just 20 and English, which will inflate the value somewhat.

Given that Shaw went for £30mil, it could easily be in the £60mil range.

I think £40m is about right, but his contract is dwindling down. At this rate, he won't be going for that.

That doesn't make a difference because he isn't 24+. If anything, it gives Liverpool more pulling power because we'd get ludicrous compensation if we let him walk for free in two years.

Why would the compensation be "ludicrous"?

Given Danny Ings is expected to fetch Burnley between £7m and £9m when he leaves, the precedent has been set. But regardless, the arbitration process will determine an independent valuation, and given that in January the CIES Football Observatory ranked Sterling as the 7th most valuable footballer in the world (worth 63m Euros in their eyes), it'll easily be around £50m, and that's without any significant development he could make in those two years.
