Was that Gerrard's best spell or is there another reason they're being compared? Age maybe? @MexicoJack

I think it's age. Gerrard's best period was 07/08 to 09/10, before two injury hampered seasons - he managed just 24 and 28 total appearances - before somewhat of a renaissance in his final three years at the club. His last two seasons at the club were some of his best - 14 goals in 39 games in 13/14 and 13 in 41 in his final season. The only seasons he did better were 08/09 - easily his best with 24 in 44 in what was Liverpool's best chance to win the Premier League until this season, 07/08 with 21 in 52 and 05/06 which is included in the comparison and he scored 23 in 53.

In his best seasons - let's take a four year period from 05/06 to 08/09 - he was putting up Lampard-like numbers, though Lampard put those kinds of numbers up consistently throughout his Chelsea career, scoring 15 or more goals a season in 9 out of 10 seasons from 03/04 to 12/13 - the only blip coming in 10/11 where he missed four months after getting injured against Stoke in Chelsea's third league game, and he still managed to net 13 times in 32 games in all competitions. Lampard's injury was a big loss for Chelsea who after scoring 14 goals in their first three games, would only score 16 in the 13 league games that Lampard missed. With United only needing to garner 80 points to win the title (the lowest since their win in 2000/01 and one of only three times since then in which the winning team has gotten less than 85 points), it's not an exaggeration to suggest that maybe with Lampard, Chelsea improve on the 71 points and 2nd place finish in that season.

4-0

This is how title contenders play at home against also-rans who like to think they're good when they beat nothing-teams but really don't know what the fuck they're doing.

I recognise it from Chelsea vs. Arsenal games a decade ago.
