Couldn't have put it better. Also don't like the mentality of "we should buy it to support it getting good later". The game should not feel half baked at release. And that goes for any game.

It's not even as if this is some sort of passion project from a small team of hobbyist developers. It's a game funded by a company owned by a billionaire, published by THQ Nordic and developed by a studio with decades of experience in making wrestling games. There's no reason why the consumer should feel obliged to help them create a fully working product.

It's not even half baked. They didn't even put it in the fuckin oven.

Did they at least mix the ingredients right?

I think they substituted egg with... parmesan cheese for some reason.

I don't think the people who think this game is going to get a massive amount of updates understand the situation at Embracer Groups (the owners of publisher THQ Nordic).  They just had a deal for a $2 billion partnership of which we know nothing else about fall apart.  And they spent $400 million on Lord of the Rings.

This means they will likely be much more selective on resource allocation.  Much less experimentation and less of a chance for riskier intellectual properties to come out from under their web.  Non-zero chance that a bunch of studios end up folding or being dissolved/rolled into other studios to work on the priority projects.

I think even in the best case scenario this game was going to top off with moderate/good sales, not be a major seller.  Given Embracer's financial situation that means I can't really expect upgrades will be anything beyond cosmetics and maybe a few gameplay tweaks.

I'm willing to say this is, essentially, the final product.

My game has done nothing but crash all day after the match loading screen. Very annoying. So not been able to play it again today. Should not have bought it at full price. :facepalm: I'm not mad at all. :P

PS4? If so, known issue.

yeah, I'm getting the same thing. Crashes when trying to start a match, whether exhibition or Road To Elite. Quite an important feature to not be able to access.

I had wondered if it was a problem with the Road To Elite save I had with my CAW, so I started a new one as Sting, and the custom dialogue popped me - when he gets the phone call from Tony Khan inviting him to be in the Casino Battle Royal, Sting replies, "what, is this one of those old guy Gimmick Battle Royal deals?".

Dr Ultimate Warrior.

As soon as I read that D.M.D came into mind.

The newest patch is for all you PS4 owners who had crashing problems, FYI.

Thankfully it has fixed that issue. Thank you for the reminder to update it.

Had a fun game with Jade Cargill Vs. Kris Statlander. Very enjoyable. Getting the hang of it now. Still TBS Champion.

because I thought the PS4 glitch might have been due to playing as my CAW, I had abandoned their Road To Elite (admittedly only two matches in anyway) and started again as Sting. Road To Elite is a bit pointless when you don't get any of the benefits of stats increases or anything, but it's fun enough.

I've upped the difficulty setting to Normal, as in the odd couple tag team storyline (as my CAW it was me and Moxley, as Sting it's me and Dustin), I beat Scorpio Sky in literally seconds, after maybe four moves, without either of us ever making a tag.

I've remapped the controls to be a bit more like Smackdown on the PS1; it's not perfect, as there were some dual function buttons (circle for grappling and Irish whipping) that you can't do on this game, but I've gone with circle for grapple, triangle for run, square and X for strikes, L1 for Irish Whip, R1 and R2 for countering. Aside from the fact that I can't get the hang of counters at all, that seems to make it more playable and intuitive for me.

Apart from countering, the biggest thing for me right now is that it's basically impossible to kick out after a signature, let alone a finisher. It means matches tend to be over very quickly, and that combined with the more arcade-y gaming means there's no incentive to make a match "better" in terms of realism and drama, and you're much better off just spamming moves and playing a cheaper, less realistic game. I imagine it makes online multiplayer insufferable.

With Abadon I managed to get a 2.99 kickout after receiving Yuka Sakazaki's signature move. You're right though, it's bloody difficult to kick out.

oh, I just remembered another glitch I encountered twice during the Casino Battle Royal.

Sting's signature is the Stinger Splash, but he still gets a button prompt to perform a signature from a standing grapple. When you press it, the wrestlers just freeze together in a lock-up for an extended period, until it's eventually broken quite some time later - in my case, it was a bodyslam both times.

I don't know if that's the case for other wrestlers without a standing signature, that the game gets stuck trying to find a move animation that isn't there, or if it's just Sting, or even just that match type.

Maybe Sting is just taking wrestling to strange new places?
