MLS news roundup!

New England Revolution are loaning Jerry Bengston out to an Argentinean side, continuing their battle with Chicago to determine who can have the worst track record with DP signings in MLS today.

Houston Dynamo have signed Honduran midfielder Luis Garrido which may not be the end of their signings this window, which would make sense because holy shit are they ever imploding right now.

Phladelphia Union are apparently preparing to sign Algerian GK Rais M'Bohli, who was great at the World Cup and is an exciting signing right up until you stop and wonder why in the world the Union needs another keeper.

Garrido is awesome.

The Union have announced they're making an announcement tomorrow (sigh). Seems most likely to be M'Bohli getting signed and MacMath getting traded to wherever he's getting traded to.

LA Galaxy have traded Kofi Opare and their 2015 2nd-round pick to DC United for their spot in the allocation order. Jermaine Jones? Except Jones would surely be on a DP contract...

And yes, the Union did indeed do a press conference to announce M'Bohli and boast that they think they have three of the best GKs in MLS, because that is definitely a smart strategy.

Meanwhile, Nick De Santis has been relieved of his duties as Sporting Director for Montreal, which seems like a good move for them, and the rumor is that LA traded for a higher spot in the allocation order so they can sign Sacha Kljestan on loan, which... oh. Oh :(

Alexi Lalas says that Chicago are closing in on a 3m a year deal for Jermaine Jones. Which is shocking since I didn't realize that the Fire actually spent money on DPs.

Uhhhh have you ever tried to score a goal with three keepers in net? Who needs a left back?

Lots of transfer news and rumors all over the place, and fantastic goals in the All-Star Game (along with Pep Guardiola making an ass out of himself after Bayern lost), but none of that's important right now.

Landon Donovan has announced he will be retiring at the end of the 2014 season.

Hey, remember the MLS thread?

Jermaine Jones has signed for New England Revolution in one of the most convoluted, hilariously MLS signings ever.

For anyone who doesn't want to read the whole thing; Jones basically spent the last month holding out and trying to get a similar salary to what Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey get, which would mean he could bypass the allocation order and go to whoever he wanted. He wanted to play for Chicago and it seemed like a done deal, but New England's ownership has suddenly decided to actually invest money in the team again and stalled out the negotiations. Eventually the price tag raised up even further to offset the fact that Jones didn't really want to play for the Revs and both teams entered a "blind draw" for him, which hilariously New England won. So now Jones is making the money he wanted but playing somewhere he had no interest in going. MLS!

Other news; Vancouver traded Nigel Reo-Coker to Chivas for Mauro Rosales (FUCK YOU VANCOUVER), Chicago sent Jhon Kennedy Hurtado to Chivas for allocation money (to acquire what now I'm not sure), and New England are said to be signing Geoffrey Castillion on a free.

Well, as this certainly is MLS 'related' ... our local little NASL outfit here in San Antonio has updated the stadium expansion design in a pretty bad ass manner:

"Just as Soccer for a Cause has been a “beacon of light” for San Antonio and professional sports, Hartman said, a high-powered beam of light is planned to extend from the southeast corner of the stadium high up into the night sky during Scorpions matches. The shaft of light would be seen for miles away, reminding San Antonio and surrounding areas that the home team is on the pitch. The beam of light would turn red when the Scorpions score a goal or win the match."

"San Antonio’s loyal and rowdy supporter groups would see an expanded supporter seating section just beyond the north goal line and enjoy their own Members Club and Soccer Bar planned directly behind their north seating sections. The large Members Club and Soccer Bar is intended to be a gathering place hours before and after a match; it would not only have a raw party atmosphere with a full bar, bar food and TV’s, but the Club Bar would be open all week to become San Antonio’s hot spot for soccer supporters, watch parties and night life."
