Jones is alright, he just isn't a full back, or at least not one for a top club. Smallings alright.

Centre halfs should be good at dispossessing players, its the clever stuff like reading the game and making the right decisions that make the difference and both of them need a leader at this point of their careers. See Titus Bramble/Steven Taylor playing alongside Jonathan Woodgate vs the entire rest of their careers.

Phil Jones is a new John O'Shea (but isn't that close to the level of "I will play anywhere and fuck you" O'Shea-ness that John is). He's a good centre half and can do a job across the back four and midfield lines.
