Rivers turned down the Saints last week, so I'm not sure he's wanting to return this late into a season.  But his relationship with the Colts might make him rethink things.

If there's one team Rivers returns to it's them. Colts are lucky this positive test came on a Tuesday and not later in the week so they could likely have him back for Week 18.

He’s been largely out of the game since retiring from broadcasting, 85 is a great run, and definitely an age you could expect someone to pass.....but even saying all that, man I’ve always dreaded this day, this is a gut punch.

Man, that really sucks. Between coaching, announcing, and video games, Madden did so much for the game of football. Really shocking.

Madden and Summmerall were my all-time favorite NFL announce team. But Madden was also my all-time favorite NFL personality.

I felt like I asked Madden for the most of my defensive play calls.

In his later career Madden caught a lot of flak for explaining really obvious football concepts to the audience. But that's because he was the first announcer to successfully do that. Can't point to anyone else in the history of football who truly took it from a game people watched to a game people meticulously broke down Xs and Os on their couch during.

That's one of the things that was so great about him. He didn't treat the audience as if they knew everything or didn't need to know everything. While at the same time explaining in a concise manner that came off as if he was coaching the fans as much as explaining. 

With Madden's passing, ALL of my favorite football announcers are dead.  (Him and Pat Summerall for the NFL, Keith Jackson and John Ward (Vols radio announcer) for college.)

I think the current generation of guys, especially Romo, are fantastic. But they definitely talk about football at a level that might be a little tough for someone who is new to the sport to really pick up on right away.
