Can only trust random message board rumors so much but there's a guy on one of the longest-standing Giants boards who purportedly has insider info and has proven it over the years by correctly scooping some major Giants stories and he's claiming the Giants and Bears have had active discussions over the cost to move up from #6 to #1.

Just eyeballing the value chart that all the teams use, the #1 pick carries a value of 3,000 and future pick values are usually estimated by taking the #16 pick in a round and dividing the value by 2, 4, etc depending on how many years out the pick is.

By that metric, for the Giants to move to #1 they'd need to part with the #6 pick (1,600), #39 pick (510), #47 pick (430), and their 2025 1st rounder (500 estimate).  That's a total value of 3,040 points.  And if the Giants didn't want to part with both of their 2nd rounders they'd have to find a way to send over enough picks to make up the value, or a player as the Panthers did with DJ Moore.  Very steep as you'd expect, even though there's no such thing as an overpay for a franchise QB if it works out.  And I do think if the Giants fall in love with one of the top 3 QBs it's #1 or bust, because Washington and New England are certainly taking one.

I actually would think the dream scenario for Chicago is that New England has a clear preference of QBs, enough so to make the move up.  If they do that Chicago can just move down to #3 and take Harrison anyway.  Moving down to #6 means they lose Harrison, who won't go any later than Arizona at #4.

Chicago's best bet is to swap with New England who may overpay to keep another team from jumping to #1. Then Chicago has assets and the chance to get their top choice while nobody leapfrogs New England for their top choice.

Given that the Bears were interviewing Greg Roman recently I have a hunch they want to try making Justin Fields work. Maybe the combine changes their mind, and certainly no trade happens until Chicago is 100% sure.

Will be a very interesting storyline nonetheless. There also exists a looming possibility for Washington or NE to not love any of the QBs and look towards Cousins or Wilson or Tannehill as a stopgap. Would really spice things up if they make that move prior to the draft.

This doesn't even get into the potential trades that could involve WRs this offseason, most of which will net a 1st rounder as return.

Mike McCarthy is returning to the Cowboys in what is surely the hottest coach market in forever.

Quick unrelated question: can just about anyone baker act anyone?

Great, another wasted season incoming.  Jerry was so happy to have a coach that won a Super Bowl but won’t go after the guy with 6?  Fuck this shit, I can definitely find better things to do on a Sunday than watch this team rack up 11 meaningless wins en route to a guaranteed embarrassment in the playoffs.

There is no doubt in my mind that there will be calls for Jerry Jones' head now more than ever. Incredible how a man so obsessed with his "winning image" can allow himself to be the biggest laughingstock in the league.

Pretty sure it's restricted to Floridians.

A question is, would Bill even want to go to Dallas?  Bill is a control freak, and Jerry likes to meddle.

There’s been some suggestion that Belichick wants to go to a team that has good starting talent but still needs some work to be a proper contender, which is why he interviewed with Atlanta and there’s been longstanding rumors of the Chargers.

He would easily get the wins record in two years if he went to Dallas or Philly, so it would seem that while he wants the record getting it as soon as possible isn’t the priority.

Perhaps having more of a challenge is more important to him, he wants to prove he can still build something instead of taking over a team that’s more turn-key.

Cowboys need too much work, confirmed.

If he was going to stick around longer than 4 years, the Chargers would be a no brainer for him.  They still are, why wouldn’t you want to go live in Southern California and have one of the best young QBs in the league?  Belichick and McDaniels would make a big impact on that team.
