Then sorry. I assumed when you started discussing the average medal to people living in the country you were just looking for a way to get Australia to the top of the tables <_<

I really like Australia, I want to go there sometime because there way of developing young people is brilliant. And a good reason why they are as good as they are despite their lower population. Lleyton Hewitt is a good example, he was good enough to be an Aussie Rules footballer I believe, but took tennis.

Every child gets tested on basic co-ordination, balance and stuff like that I believe, and the better ones are given a chance to improve and then put into a specific sport at a later date. It's a great way, as opposed to here in England where ever child ends up choosing football over every other sport, I wish I'd carried on with my multiple sports to a later date - when I used to do football, running, gymnastics - hell even a brief stint of roller hockey - then I took up tennis. I feel if I'd done more sports for longer it would be better.

UK should probably take some notes and maybe we can improve our standard without whipping children <_<

No offence Zaz...but you're pissing me off in here. :shifty:

We get it, Australia are fucking awesome.

Same as how the Americans (with their Michael Phelps, yay!) and UKers (cycling, we're beating Australia!) are annoying me at times too :P

TBF, the Brits have won gold in Swimming, Rowing, Sailing and Cycling.

Yeah, but you guys were only really hyping up the cycling (to be fair, it was mainly Hamster and he's been doing it for ages now >_>), so I didn't mind you guys winning in all the rest (I actually cheered for you lost in one or two of the events Australia wasn't in :P).

I hype the cycling because I'm a realist - we're the best in the world at one SOLITARY sport and it's track cycling. It's just fantastic that we're topping the sailing and rowing medal tables too at the moment.

Slovakia are the best in the world at the canoeing and they're going crazy for it.

Japan have the best Judokan and EVERYTHING over here is Judo (and swimming).

Australia have historically always gotten off to a stormer at Olympics because of the swimming. Aus produces magnificent swimmers and has done for years...And they've also got a tiny population and always have a good medals per population count.

So Zazzy-pants - I celebrate our victories and don't involve myself in discussion of events where we suck dismally (like Taewkondo, baseball, handball, gymnastics....)

Actually we had a guy win a bronze on the individual pommel horse today and it's our FOURTH gymnastics medal for EVER.

And also, Australia LOVE beating England too. We never hear the end of it every time you thrash us in the cricket, so it's far from one way. There's great competition between the two countries. I kinda like Australia and generally cheer for them in most events but I always love it when we beat you at SOMETHING. :P

Don't get me wrong, I like it when people come in here celebrating their victories as it adds a lot to the thread and adds to the general interest in the Olympics. I just find it slightly annoying when some people come in and go 'Ok, we're definitely gonna win this, this and this' or 'So-and-so is the best athlete ever and no one will come close' as it kinda takes away the enjoyment.

And yeah, the Aussie-England (cheats, stop living off the Scottish and Welsh talent >_>) rivalry is great, but we'll still try and claim victory by either total medal count or golds, depending how it finishes up :P. And if you beat us in both of those, per capita :shifty:

We have to go some to beat per capita but we will surely try.

And true, Hoy is Scottish so I have to celebrate as British :P

Also, as far as "best athlete EVAR!~" etc etc isn't that pretty much what every country seems to shamelessly tagging on Phelps...And yes it is a little annoying when it's that intense.

Yeah, you cocks, Team GB is Celt-powered! Scotland loves Australia. But admittedly, we like New Zealand better. C'mon the Kiwis!! :shifty:

Does Wales like anywhere? Everyone sort of dislikes them, I feel bad for them. :(

So as an aside - are there any athletes so far in this Olympics that you've enjoyed watching for "other" reasons? We know a few of our younger bunch have collective hard-ons for the dinky Shawn Johnson but who floats your boat?

I'm sure I'm not the only one perving a little.

I must admit to enjoying a bit of:

Kim Gavaert (Not so much now though. She's starting to age. I've enjoyed her being successful for a few years now and she can be kinda cute when she seems happy).

Kelly Sotherton (her voice is so cutesy too and she's got a good heptathlete's body)

The Polish women's volleyball team (about four of the squad are actually really good looking and they're tall and slender n stuff. Yum).

Victoria Pendleton (bike porn).

A fucking SHITLOAD!

Kelly Sotherton is proper fit.

Nicola Sanders is nice... there's just something about her...it's the eyes. I'd ruin her.

Them Yngling girls.

We've also got some banging lass in the Modern Pentathlon, who's relatively local. Proper fit. I'm gonna be watching that.

There was a couple of swimmers from us who'd get it too.

Team GB alone has some top talent...that's even before I go into other countries. I'm a grade A pervert, so if I was to list everyone, I'd be here all day.
