Well, I mean acceleration is Force / mass. The mass of the football is roughly constant, however, increased muscle mass allows for a far greater exertion of force upon an object, based upon F = ma.

Ergo, a large force being exerted onto a football would increase the acceleration of a football over a set distance, say twelve yards. This greater acceleration increases velocity, meaning the distance is covered in less time. This is problematic for the goalkeeper, as he has less reaction time to make a decision regarding his movement in relation to the penalty kick, the faster the reaction time, the less likelihood of the correct decision being made and the goalkeeper failing to stop the penalty kick.

It's pretty basic classical mechanics with a smattering of neuroscience.

;)

Reminds me of an awful worksheet my physics teacher gave me where we had to calculate the drag on that Roberto Carlos free kick.

Blackburn Rovers are close to appointing Owen Coyle as their new manager, according to Sky sources. Coyle returned to the UK last week after two years in American where he managed MLS side Houston Dynamo. Rovers have been looking for a new manager since Paul Lambert left Ewood Park 10 days before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Gary Bowyer is the new Blackpool manager and Alan Stubbs has taken over at Rotherham.

I'm sure a former Bolton, Wigan and Burnley manager being appointed will go down fantastically with Blackburn fans. <_<

They don't even have a board - I'm sure a shit manager being appointed is the least of their worries right now!

Leeds United have appointed Garry Monk as head coach on a one-year contract and he'll be presented to the media this afternoon.

I wish him the best but it's like seeing your ex-girlfriend finding someone on the rebound.

And like most rebound relationships, it won't last very long.
