The Old Sony Megathread

Just got a preowned Uncharted on the Vita. Just a few levels in and it's fun enough. Graphics nice, too much time spent in the standard jungle setting though. They're getting as much use of the touchy stuff as possible and added loads of little mini bits like polishing helmets and rubbing paper against rocks. Indeed within just a few minutes they managed to fit in a string of masturbation innuendo jokes.

Is it true you can't earn trophies on pre-owned games? I have a VITA but haven't tried a used game yet.

I've been earning trophies left, right and centre on it!

I've noticed a few media reports saying "it's pretty but the iphone has more games". Well yeah if you want to spend three minutes playing something little but the specialised games market is still far far better on the Sony and Nintendo handheld market. It's lazy journalism by people who don't really PLAY games other than Angry Birds or whatever.

A friend told me there's an easy workaround for that - you just clear all the game data when you first get it and it functions like new.

I think the confusing thing for me is that my brothers got an Experia Play phone, I.e. the one with a slideout PS pad, which I believe plays ps1 games at very least. That's knocking on a bit so you'd assume the now non-Ericsson Sony will be putting a new one out soon, but presumably holding back on how good it could be to not impact Vita which is a similar size but obviously far pricier if you factor in you'd already be paying your phone contract anyway. I don't know how close they'll become but I imagine this will be the last 'separate' handheld console.

Not quite. You just need to delete the game information before you play it. Pop the game in, long-press the home screen, tap the "..." on the top-right of the game icon and hit delete.

That's it, I've had a few people ask why they should get one over the Vita and the answer is you wouldn't, because if you're asking that question and making that comparison, you're not the target market. I imagine eventually, when there's better implementation of 3g and the store has more of an appstore-type vibe to it, there might be a bit more of an appeal to the phone-gamer.

To be honest, I've found it pretty encouraging how well the Vita's sold so far, who says the handheld market's dead?

EDIT, as I just saw Colly's post: I can't ever see a proper, dedicated handheld like the Vita being a phone as well, it'd just be too big. I can see it being used for things like Skype videochat and you could even manage text-messaging and e-mail, but for proper old-school phone calls, it's just too unwieldy. And they can't make it any smaller or more ergonomic for that purpose as they have to work around that massive screen.

Sure, my Vita Wipeout and Uncharted trophies seem to be included on Vita and PS3. I can also check out PS3 trophies on my Vita. Surely trophies aren't a serious factor though.

Trophy hunting is like herpes. It's a disease that once you catch it never goes away.

So with me getting my tax return back soon I may actually pick up a Vita.

One question: does your trophy count combine between the PS3 and Vita?

Yeah, I think it's tied to your PSN account rather than to one console or the other.

I thought I'd care more about trophies since you can earn them on the Vita. I don't. I guess Gamerscore and achievements dug their dirty claws into me first, and I don't have the time or patience to go chasing two arbitrary rewards.
