Cleveland really really really reached with Mingo. Anything besides trading down would have been bad for them.

How so? Mingo was widely regarded as a top 10 pick (top 5 by some). He's an elite pass rusher with lots of upside.

They surely could have traded down a few spots and still gotten Mingo.

This is assuming they had any offers to trade down, though.

They surely could have traded down a few spots and still gotten Mingo. It felt like a panic move to keep him away from the Jets. I just had been reading a lot of apprehension about Mingo recently. Ansah leapfrogging him is telling of this. Basically I feel like he will be good but I definitely had been reading that he probably isn't good enough for the 6th pick. A team with as many holes as Cleveland really, really needed to trade down.

You have to find a partner in order to trade down. Easier said than done. They probably could have done the same Rams deal, but they wanted Mingo and got him. The pass rush is going to be ridiculous for the Browns now.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for Kruger, he played behind Johnson for 3 years because he never really put it together. Then this year he was junk until after the bye week when he turned it on and excelled as a number 2 pass rusher. I don't think he's a top pass rusher, he works great on the other side of a Pro Bowler.

It's nice to be optimistic though, but I just have not seen Cleveland prove to me that they really have learned from Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and even Cincinnati on how not to make panic moves in the draft or free agency.

I loved Hayden as a late 1st round pick, but I don't think he was a 12. I'm stunned they didn't grab a DT though.

Also, the Jets failed by grabbing Milliner when they did since they lost out on the last 2 good OL. However, grabbing Richardson is a great pickup. It could be criticized if Loutelei is better in 5 years, but there's a lot of upside on Richardson. I think both he and Loutelei were 2 of the top 10 overall players. Certainly above Hayden, Mingo, Fluker, and Milliner. That said, Rex is clearly calling the shots here and will get criticized for not addressing their biggest need, OL. He loves defense a bit too much. I'll be stunned if he oversees this rebuilding process.

The Lions are exceptionally familiar with Ansah, they were basically coaching him for a week in the lead up to the draft. If they botched this pick it calls into question their entire scouting.

And how far does Loutelei drop?

Which is what scares me, our scouting staff is shit. Mayhew is probably finished anyway, he needed a day 1 starter and took a project.

Ok Manuel actually might turn out to be a good starter, but way too early to take him. Buffalo absolutely could have gotten him in round 2.

Pittsburgh got the best LB in the draft, just amazing how he fell into their lap. He would have been the top pick but had a rough period building up to the draft. The scenario reminds me of Terrell Suggs winding up with the Ravens a decade ago.

Niners shockingly didn't take Floyd, I'm floored actually. Itthought that was a lock when they traded up.
