I had a hunch the tactics for this match would be to try to grind out a draw or maybe get extremely lucky and steal a goal on the counterattack. No reason Newcastle needed to come out and try for 3 pts after the recent run of form and their condensed schedule.

First half has very much shown my hunch was correct.

Really? It's a back 5 by necessity due to the missing midfielders, but it's a high press and fairly attacking by any recent standards. Few decent half chances too, especially from set pieces.

That said, the Leeds goal absolutely should not have stood. Bamford is offsides when the ball is played over the top, and he has a direct influence on the play because Kabak doesn't make that header otherwise. James collects the loose ball and Leeds score within 5 seconds. It's the Liverpool goal against Palace where Firmino is offsides and draws the defender to him, but they allow the goal. Terrible call by VAR. Haven't heard that before!

I am staggered that VAR hasn't punished Chelsea for a penalty or red or anything yet. We are just begging to lose this game through stupidity.

I honestly can't grasp how that decision was made so quickly. If nothing else it absolutely wasn't a corner so there's a blatant clear and obvious error by the ref there before anything else. Clear pen even if just from the shirt pull.

Refs lost the plot here.
