Eh, with Di Maria (and I suppose Drogba) he couldn't sign him due to work permit issues, which is why he brought it up.

I know we tried or had agreed to sign either Essien or Mikel years before Chelsea got him but we couldn't get due to the same issues.

Which would presumably be why we grabbed Royal Antwerp as an affiliate around that time to help get EU cit quicker..
