BUT caution needed. As reported in August, same Sheik had a £2bn agreement in principle with Liverpool. His CEO met Tom Werner in NYC. But they failed to provide proof of funds or £25m deposit/downpayment. Tonight, however, they insist they have bought Newcastle. 2/2

...So this is basically the Loic Remy of club purchases?

I saw that The S*n did a 'How could Newcastle line up next season under the new owners?' and our front three was Ayoze Perez, Danny Welbeck and Fernando Torres.

I'm assuming they picked those two based on us immediately failing FFP and being relegated to the Evo-Stik.

Not keen on that article's suggestion that Lampard is the most likely candidate. Derby have been a playoffs-or-thereabouts team for over half a decade so it isn't like he's performed any miracles. Club legends returning as managers is a demonstrably ineffective solution to long-term issues; let the man continue to prove his chops in the Championship for a few years before even considering him for the job.

If Lampard came to Chelsea now it would be an utterly self-destructive decision on his part.

Maybe the club could say something like "look, given the transfer ban and other assorted bollocks, you can finish 10th or whatever in your first year and we'll give you a free pass" - but even if they did (and he somehow believed them), there would still be that toxic element of the fanbase who would find a way to turn on him after even a few sub-par results.

That's a huge issue with all top 6 clubs at this point - instant results are expected and it'll be interesting to see the reaction of Liverpool or Man City fans if they struggle next season - which is certainly possible, every time Liverpool have finished second going back to 1991 in the days of the old division 1 the season after they finish second they finish 5th or below. It's certainly unlikely, but good will is something that diminishes quicker and quicker nowadays.
