It makes it seem like;

1. There's probably going to be something Smackdown Mall-ish with there being an in-game earnable currency linked close to the Road to the Elite mode.

2. It's going to be replayable, if you're expected to play it multiple times and have it be gradeable

3. It's probably a bit more open ended than No Mercy was if we're going to be able to hold multiple titles at once.

No word on a launch roster, but if reports are to be believed, the game is supposed to receive ongoing updates rather than yearly installments. I'd imagine that is entirely dependent on the game being a success though. I'd brace for the initial roster to be very out of date with guys like Cody Rhodes in (hey neat) and guys like FTR out (boo, hiss).

In terms of having people like Cody in, a long time ago they mentioned that the career mode would effectively begin at the start of AEW, so they didn't see it as being a drawback to have older names still in the game. No idea if that's still true, or if it was just a bit of spin in the first place.

"Play through a match with at least 50 wrestlers" suggests that, assuming it's not expecting you to flesh that out with CAWs, the game will include at least 50 wrestlers, anyway!

FTR are apparently going to be DLC - wrestlers who debuted later than them have apparently been confirmed, too.

I guess one way they could keep the game going is doing (affordable) paid DLC to add more and more roster members over time.

RE:  FTR, all of the following debuted after them but are confirmed to be in either through screenshots or the talent themselves:

-Adam Cole
-Bryan Danielson
-CM Punk
-Jade Cargill
-Miro
-Paul Wight
-Sting
-Thunder Rosa

Plus while not listed, I'd be stunned if Christian Cage isn't in.  Pretty sure Fightful said Ruby Soho was planned to be in the game as well so that would be another one.

It's not hard to argue why any/all of these names are in ahead of FTR.  Danielson and Punk are obviously gigantic names you have to put in.  Cole might not be a household name but his debut is tied to Danielson's, plus All Out 2021 is when AEW had its highest level of momentum with all those names coming in.  Sting is Sting.  Christian and Wight are legends that even lapsed wrestling fans would know.  The women all make sense to include because they are key parts of the division and you want to have a good-sized women's roster available, which is also why even Abadon and Yuka Sakazaki are in despite not featuring on TV much.

Miro is probably the closest comp to FTR on that list.  Debuted only a couple months after them, ex-WWE guy everyone was excited to see in greener pastures.  But even then, at the time they were likely doing final cuts, Miro had tons of momentum as The Redeemer while FTR were kinda floundering.

I think FTR will end up being the most glaring omission from the base game, but it might've just been a perfect storm that kept them out.

Has anyone seen the game available to pre-order anywhere in the UK yet? Checked the Xbox store yesterday and it just said "Not Currently Available"

I don't really play video games much so I apologize if this is a dumb question, but when you pre load the game, do you not get a physical copy?

And what happens if your machine breaks? Do you have to buy it again?

I believe you can only pre-load if you buy digital, because the download option should not show up unless the console knows that you own the game.

Digital downloads for Xbox and Playstation are tied to the account, not the system. Nintendo may have changed, but last time I checked, digital downloads are a little bit trickier on their platform, as they are tied to the console itself. I do believe that there is a way to reclaim digital Nintendo games if your console fails on you though.

Not saying this inclusion is likely, but just throwing out a wish.  If they're trying to make the size of the women's roster as close to the same size as the men's roster as possible (and again, inclusions like Abadon and Yuka to me signal that it'll a pretty robust women's roster), plus knowing that they're going back to the beginning of company history...

Fuck it, give me Awesome Kong.  I would wreck so many people as Kong.  I'd give her all the titles.

It's like they heard the hemming and hawing on social media and flung a copy at OC and Evil Uno.

Honestly, it looks so fun and a great complement to 2K23, which I've been enjoying a whole lot... until my save somehow got corrupted and I lost all of my downloaded CAWs. 😐

If the plan is ongoing updates, I am curious how often those will trickle out. Quarterly? Twice a year? Yearly? And hopefully including new matches as well since ladder and cage are obviously huge omissions for launch.

I feel like twice a year would have to be the bare minimum, but it would also depend on the size of the updates.  People do have an opposition to DLC so I'd hope whatever packs they do (whether it includes wrestlers, modes, etc.) will be worth their while.  Having bought all of the Fire Pro DLC over the years, it quickly got to the point where the total DLC costs exceeded the original price of the game, but I didn't mind paying it because adding all of those moves, parts, and features gave me even more replayability and endless customization than I already had.

I can’t even find it on the PlayStation Store via console but I can on the mobile app. Still says “No Release Date” 🤷🏽‍♂️
