Rafa Benitez has already suffered a blow; his assistant, Fabio Pecchia, has been named as the new Verona manager.

Elsewhere, Mourinho has reportedly pulled out of managing the England team during Soccer Aid this week. His first match at Old Trafford as Manchester United manager is set to be Wayne Rooney's testimonial match against Everton on Wednesday, 3 August.

If you consider that there may not be a suitable 'bigger' job at the moment, it makes sense. If he stays at Southampton too long they will (probably) plateau and his reputation could take a hit the moment things become difficult. Alternatively, if he gets out now and does even slightly well at an underperforming club like Everton, then it will keep him in the mind of chairmen the next time a big opportunity does come up.

Watching Premiership Years and they've just shown the Shearer kicking Lennon thing. It's horrible and nasty, but I had to laugh at David Batty grabbing his feet while he's being treated by a physio to push him off the field. Never noticed it before.
