That article seems a very long-winded way of saying "it's not the 1950s any more".

It's just a typical "oh money is the worst thing that ever happened to football why can't we go back to the times when you could buy a player for a tub of ice cream" article, which is itself a variation of "money ruined football the 80s were better when we rioted every other match" nostalgia.

No, you're both dafties. There's a little bit more to it than that. It's pointing out a genuine paradigm shift.

Here's a crucial part:

Quote

This is a significant tipping point. For the first time, United’s income is not primarily derived from their own business activity, but from their usefulness as an advertising platform for other businesses.

Now whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you. As for me, I don't think it is so outlandish to suggest that the purpose of a football team should be to win trophies. There's nothing inherently wrong with trying to make money out of a football club, but it's just not very exciting when it's the primary goal, is it?

It's about a different world view. I'm not saying any is right or wrong. We're in the same restaurant, but we're ordering different things off the menu.

I mean, the two of you are Chelsea and Man Utd fans, so you probably rub your hands together with glee when you hear about Man Utd's latest shareholder dividend or Chelsea's newest sponsorship deal. You're ordering a shite caviar. It's really expensive and it's dreadful, but you want everyone to know you're ordering it.

Whereas I follow football on a transcendental level. While you are poring over your balance sheets, I'm appreciating the aesthetics. The occasional flashes of brilliance and the incidental stories that you can still get in the face of the onslaught of commercialisation.

If I was interested in the side of football that you two spiritlessly hornswoggle yourselves into thinking is exciting I'd follow the financial markets instead.

But it's about a different world view. I'm not saying I'm right or you're wrong.

I believe the only appropriate reaction here is 'lol'.

Can't have been that difficult to tell if you only identified one appropriate reaction. :/

Sometimes your satire is so advanced we think you are retarded

Bale's had arguably his best ever season at Real this year, can't see him coming back just yet.  I'm pretty sure him, Varane and Bale are featured in every post-Fergie Man Utd "next year starting XI."

Now come on, they already have two Martials they can't have two Bales as well!

It's been confirmed now that we will play our European games at Wembley, with an option on it for the entire following season.

Lineker, this is the Prem thread, not the CL thread, you are posting in the wrong place.

Serious question, what is the point of playing your UCL games at Wembley this season when you're still at White Hart Lane?

apparently it's something to do with UEFA not allowing games while there's construction going on or something?
