Fletcher Cox is about to get P.A.I.D!

That sound you hear is Von Miller leaping for joy at his new baseline in negotiations.

Cox was arguably the best player on the entire team the last two years, they needed to pay him. The guy was a beast as a DT in a 3-4, now that they switched to a 4-3 he should be an even bigger force in drawing double teams or getting to the QB. He probably won't have the same production because he's going to get double teamed a lot but when that happens, you need guys like Curry, Graham and Barwin to get to the QB. The guaranteed money is the only thing that worries me because I'm hoping he doesn't go Albert Haynesworth on us.

Von Miller will get paid and Denver should back up the truck. That guy was the main reason they won the Super Bowl and he's in his prime.

Yeah, there isn't anything keeping the Broncos from tagging Miller again next year if they have to.  There is nothing in the rules that prevents a team from handing out the franchise tag to the same player every year except for the fact that teams are required to pay a premium to tag somebody more than once (even more than the guaranteed minimum tag for that position).  So after two or three years it's completely impractical to keep using the franchise tag on the same guy in a capped league because it would cost so much.

Miller will get his long-term deal with Denver, he stands to lose too much by not locking down guaranteed money before the start of the season and the Broncos aren't going to want to have to pay the franchise tag premium next year while having a disgruntled star.

Tagging him twice is affordable, a 3rd tag triggers the QB franchise number regardless of position.

The franchise tag is an asset in itself, given the opportunity cost of applying it. It's in everyone's interest to get the Von deal do everything, even if it's astronomical figures!

LOS ANGELES, June 16, 2016: As of Thursday evening, June 16 at 7 p.m. ET NFL Network and NFL RedZone have been dropped by Dish Network's satellite distribution system. This represents the first time in NFL Network's 13 year history that one of its service providers has not continued to offer the network to its subscribers.

NFL Network continues to be distributed to over 60 million households across the United States, including strong distribution partnerships with every major cable, satellite and telco provider in the country -- including DIRECTV, Comcast Xfinity, Charter Spectrum, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon FiOS.

NFL content has never been more popular across the media landscape. According to the Nielsen Company, 199 million people tuned into the 2015 NFL regular season representing 78 percent of all television homes and 67 percent of potential viewers in the U.S. NFL games accounted for the top 25 and 46 of the 50 most-watched TV shows among all programming in 2015.

As the only network 100% dedicated to coverage of America's most popular sports league, NFL Network is committed to serving the millions of NFL fans by reaching fair distribution agreements with the pay-TV industry.

Well if Miller refuses to sign his franchise tag, then he gets paid nothing and the Broncos retain his rights indefinitely.  If he's willing to hold out to the point where he might not even play at all then more power to him but I'm sure they'll wind up agreeing to a long-term deal before then.  Last year a whole bunch of franchise tagged players waited until the last possible day they could accept their franchise tenders to agree to long-term deals.

I'd be pretty surprised if the franchise tag isn't a big subject of negotiations when the next CBA is up.

Read it recently that under the new CBA it's different.

If he holds out, he sits out a year and then if they tag him again it's automatically a non-exclusive tag. Only this time the comp is a a 1st and a 3rd round pick. Somebody will definitely offer him the money he wants and be willing to pay that compensation, so he holds a lot more levereage if he's willing to sit out. That way he rests up and definitely gets paid next year, when he'll only be 28 still.
