Didn't they say it won't have any repercussions because the Community Shield is "it's own separate entity" i.e. a friendly?

 Normally yes but there can be exceptions made. Was it Gerrard who got a three game ban for a red card in a friendly? IIRC it was a Liverpool player I'm thinking of

Ivanovic was the last player to receive a red in this match and didn't get a ban, Google tells me.

Google also tells me that it was Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes who had to serve bans for red cards in a pre-season tournament. So it involved a player FROM Liverpool rather than a Liverpool player, close enough
