Premier League 2022/23

Most of the refs are from Greater Manchester too. Defo thought "be arsed drawing the line lol"

<_<

I'm fully expecting the derby to be the most boring 0-0 or 1-0 to Everton. Probably the least confident I've been going into a derby for a long time.

Not entirely - though the geographic spread is freaking woeful and worse than it was 20 years ago.

Here's the select group plus the two retired refs who also do VAR. These are the only VAR officials for the Premier League:

Spoiler

Referee FA Registered to Place of birth/Residence
Stuart Atwell Birmingham Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Peter Bankes Liverpool Lancashire/The Wirral
Tom Bramall Sheffield & Hallamshire Sheffield
John Brooks Leicestershire & Rutland Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire
David Coote Nottinghamshire Nottingham
Darren England Sheffield & Hallamshire Doncaster, South Yorkshire
Jarred Gillett Liverpool Australia
Tony Harrington Durham Cleveland, North Yorkshire
Simon Hooper Wiltshire Swindon
Rob Jones Cheshire Merseyside
Chris Kavanagh Manchester Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester
Andy Madley West Riding of Yorkshire Huddersfield, West Yorkshire
Andre Marriner Birmingham Birmingham
Michael Oliver Durham Ashington, Northumberland
Craig Pawson Sheffield & Hallamshire Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Michael Salisbury Lancashire Lancashire
Graham Scott Berks & Bucks Oxford
Anthony Taylor Cheshire Wythenshawe, Greater Manchester
Paul Tierney Lancashire Wigan, Lancashire
Mike Dean Cheshire The Wirral
Lee Mason Lancashire Bolton, Lancashire

It's pretty northern, with more in the north west than the north east. You see the same thing if you look at match officials qualified for games at EFL and above level:

Spoiler

Region Select Group Refs Total Match Officials
North West 7 23
Yorkshire & Humber 4 10
North East 2 12
East Midlands 2 8
West Midlands: 2 6
South East 1 11
South West 1 3
East of England 0 3
London 0 2
Military FAs 0 1

It's absurd that London has produced just 2 match officials for the entire professional pyramid. But it's not entirely surprising, given how London has just 1 FA and there's like 6 in the North West, and also how ever since refereeing was professionalised it's been run by northerners and still is, so rather than the FA controlling progressing (and thus having a vested interest in seeing all areas of the country represented sort of evenly to placate their member FAs), you've got people who likely have in-grained, largely subconscious biases doing it.

Putting this here as more likely to be seen and its a small victory somewhat for fans as this could easily happen to any English team. Some damning points against UEFA, The French Football Association and French authorities.

"The panel found that many Liverpool supporters’ experience of the Hillsborough disaster meant they had heightened awareness of the danger and collectively this helped to avoid a lethal disaster, but they were also vulnerable to increased trauma"

A miracle a no one died that night.

I dunno about that. The one Australian guy shifts the average quite a bit.

Everton don't have the players really to expose us on the counter and it's helping massively to regain possession after losing it, a rarity for Liverpool lately. However, final ball and chance creation remains a clear problem. It's still a lot of aimless crosses. Best chance came off Darwin Nunez accidentally hitting a great cross by mishitting a volley.

We've played so much better and there seems to be a lot more pace and pressure off the ball and I've felt that goals been coming despite it being right off Everton hitting the post.

Although that said. Pickford trying to do FIFA manual goalkeeping control there helped

Happy to get a bit of luck for once! Thought Tarkowski's header was going into the corner. Instead, we're up seconds later. Amazing work by Salah and especially Darwin. Pickford having a howler definitely helped

Imagine being a mouth breather and still being happy about struggling to take 4 points from one of the worst performing sides in the league. Then again proper scum fans wouldn't be happy with that, only their fucking fairweather fans that only support them cos they were good in the late 90s/early 00s. Get your Norwich scarfs back out again when you drop a few points and don't make the champions league you silly cunts.

All Leeds aren't we. Cut me open and I'll be bleed blue, yellow and white

The words Leeds United. A F C will follow wherever you goooo... We're in a Yorkshire Rose.... UNITED LEEDS.... UNITED LEEDS

THERE'S ONLY ONE UNITED

Get fucked you scum cunts (except Baddar, LL, Kats, Diarmaid, that Dang117 guy who I don't really know but seems okay, you know people who aren't a waste of oxygen)
