UGh stop giving the Patriots shit.  Can't wait for the Browns to give them the 12th overall pick too, so they will have effectively traded Jimmy Garappolo for Brandin Cooks and the 12th overall pick.

Not a terrible option if he's just #2. Which he is because he is shit.

But seriously, could do worse at back up QB. Could be Dan Orlovsky...

Mike Glennon....

Tbf the Pats could've traded for the Saints' #5 receiver and he would've ended up putting up Pro Bowl numbers anyway.  It literally does not matter who they have on their roster.  They will get to the AFC Title game at worst.

If the Pats were a publicly traded company, their share price would tank immensely the second Belichick decides to retire.  He is the entire operation.

So why did the Saints trade him?

He wasn't very happy with his role and is set to become a FA after this year so they got what they could instead of losing him for nothing, or even paying him a large extension. With the emergence of Michael Thomas, he was reasonably expendable if it meant acquiring assets to actually improve their defense.

  • The Dallas Cowboys expect right tackle Doug Free to retire.
  • Former Cowboys safety J.J. Wilcox has found a new home. The 26-year-old former third-round pick signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team announced Saturday. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports it is a two-year deal for Wilcox, worth up to $8.5 million, per a source.
  • Kendall Wright joins the Chicago Bears on one-year deal. The Bears also announced they have signed former Cardinals cornerback Marcus Cooper to a three-year deal.
  • Former New York Jets QB Geno Smith is visiting the cross-town Giants on Saturday, Ian Rapoport reported, per a source. Rapoport noted that Smith has requests for visits from others as well.
  • One day after signing Martellus Bennett, the Green Bay Packers found themselves another free agent tight end. Green Bay announced Saturday that it has signed former LA Rams tight end Lance Kendricks.
  • Latavius Murray is due to visit the Jags and the Seahawks next week.
  • The New England Patriots have made another addition, bringing in former Ravens defensive lineman Lawrence Guy in on a four-year contract worth up to $20 million.

I really wouldn't be averse to Geno being the backup.  He'd still be better than Nassib.  And if they were to draft a QB (and I still think they might) they were never going to have a rookie be the lone backup QB.  Realistically the team is screwed if Eli's iron man streak ends anyway so if Smith doesn't mind holding a clipboard then welcome aboard.

Speaking of draft busts, the Giants also sign OT DJ Fluker to a 1 year "prove it" deal.

Geno as back up for Eli whilst he learns the ropes more? I quite like that, and he's better than the dumpster first than Nassib.

Yeah I don't see the problem with having Geno as Eli's backup.

Is definitely going to go to the shit if he goes down and will go to shit as soon as he retires, so why not? He's young and has shown some flashes.
