2019 College Football Thread

8-team playoff would likely kill my interest in college football. It's bad enough that no one talks about anything other than the playoff from October on. And it's bad enough that teams already consider 10-2 to not be a good year just because they don't make the playoff. College football isn't and shouldn't be about that. Keep it four or get rid of it. Save the lame ass large playoffs for the NFL.

A 1 vs 8 or 2 vs 7 seed playoff game would hold no interest to me.

You could maybe talk me into 6 teams.  Figure on a normal year you could get the power 5 winners plus a “wild card”.  But then you’re just gonna have the same arguments you already get now and it’ll just be oversaturation.

Eight is good if it's the Power 5 champs, two ranked G5 champion, and then the top two ranked teams who don't win their conferences.

This rewards winning your conference, while keeping the importance of a strong schedule to be highly ranked in case you don't.

Just the top eight ranked teams would suck.

Sounds like Greg Schiano returning to be the head coach at Rutgers is a done deal. He held out and it looks like he's getting the 8-year deal he originally wanted.

It'll be interesting to see how he does. There's no Big East to beat up on this time around. He's in one of the very toughest divisions in all of college football. There's tons of high school football talent in New Jersey, though, so if he can convince them to stop going to Alabama, or Ohio State, or Penn State and stay home, that'll likely be the only chance he has for success.

Clearly preparing to be hired as the Cowboys head coach.  We’ve been setting the table for this for year with all the Boise State players we draft

Lol. No. No, they don't  Kiffin gets a lot of disdain here from the way he runs his mouth, not just the way he up and left. Plus, he tried to do away with Vols traditions and turn the team in USC East.

Laugh all you want, but I don't think he would have lasted longer at Tennessee than he did at USC. Plus keep in mind USC was his dream job, so there's no way that he could have been convinced to stay. You can argue that if he had stayed, they'd probably have been able to find a decent replacement when he was eventually fired, but that's just conjecture. Kiffin's mouth got him into trouble and sometimes he couldn't back it up (Saying before the game that they'd sing Rocky Top all night long after beating Florida, then losing). The only good things that came out of his season as head coach were almost beating Alabama (only reason they didn't is because Daniel Lincoln was a garbage kicker who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn) and the black jerseys the team wore for a Halloween game. And those jerseys were the players' idea, not his. (A black jersey with a black helmet and orange pants with white trim on each would look better than the gray alternates they have now)

The next couple of seasons should show whether Pruitt was the right choice to replace Butch Jones, who has a lot of bricks collecting dust.

You live close by, I imagine you've been to New Jersey a few times.  What would it take for someone to convince you to stay in NJ>

New Jersey should be nuked off the planet to give Pennsylvania the beach we deserve.

It can also take out a pretty decent part of Philadelphia too. Once you get out of Center and Old City, it's pretty awful until you get out to Manayunk and Roxborough.

George Atkinson III has died, almost a year after his twin brother Josh's death by suicide. Atkinson went undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2014 and was signed by the Raiders.
