Oh, don't sugar coat it, DMN. I think he's a miserable piece of shit and am embarrased that he played the Volunteers and Titans. He wasn't just lazy, he was also an asshole. Remember when he stomped that Steelers player who was already down? But I still hope he gets the transplant.

Running back Melvin Gordon has informed the Los Angeles Chargers that unless he receives a new contract, he will not report to training camp and he will demand a trade, his agent Fletcher Smith told ESPN.

New Orleans Saints rookie defensive end Carl Granderson was sentenced to six months in jail Thursday after a judge rejected the terms of his plea agreement on sexual assault charges.

Cleveland's third-string running back fired his agent because he couldn't get traded. Keep in mind that a. He plays for Cleveland and is third-string and b. Hasn't done shit. So why would anyone want him?

Because he's averaged 59 catches a season since coming in the league. Just because you don't know him doesn't mean he doesn't have value. He's a very good receiving back with the potential for more if given a bigger opportunity.

Owners have proposed an 18 game schedule but players would only be allowed to play in a maximum of 16 games per year.  So presumably, gigantic preseason rosters would just be the norm all year and teams would have to strategically decide when to bench players.

Unbelievably bad idea.  Can't imagine what a mess that would be.  Would be funny though when a Pats/Saints Sunday Night Football game ends up being all backups because Belichick and Payton decided an out of conference game was a good week to give everyone a breather.

Dolphins assistant head coach/quarterbacks coach Jim Caldwell is taking a leave of absence for the 2019 NFL season to address an undisclosed health issue, the team announced Saturday. Caldwell is expected to be away from the team to focus on his health throughout the season, but he will serve as a consultant for the Dolphins and veteran voice for coach Brian Flores.

If they're going to go to 18 games, cut the pre-season and have the season start when the pre-seasson normally would, then add an extra bye week for each team during the season.

This is a far more sensible idea.

I think I'd go for the above, but with the above additions -

Teams have to name a provisional 53 man squad straight out of mini-camp, though no one is actually cut. Then, there are 1-2 pre-season games where only players NOT in the provisional 53 are eligible to play. This allows teams to try out some guys using some vanilla versions of their most updated playbooks, in live game situations, without jeopardising the health of the starters. After the pre-season games, the actual 53 cut down then happens, and the season follow GM's suggested idea above.

The 16 game schedule is perfect as is and it's structured in such a way that you know all but two games on your schedule every year.  It works.  There is no good reason to change it.

Money. Money is a good enough reason for the NFL.

The quality of the games would nosedive though.  I suspect most teams will either sacrifice two early season non-divisional games or save their backup games for the very end of the season, which will mean a whole lot of unwatchable football that won't draw the ratings the league would be hoping for.

The 18 games schedule/16 games played max idea is so ludicrous that I'm convinced owners deliberately put it out there to try to negotiate down to what they actually wanted.

People are going to shit bricks if they’re paying hundreds of dollars for regular season and seeing the back up quarterback throwing four interceptions instead of the quarterback who’s salary takes up 40% of the salary cap. 16 out of 18 is stupid. Either keep it sixteen games like it should be, or the league should come right out, admit they don’t give two shits about the players health, and have them play all eighteen.
