Sheldon Richardson was arrested for street racing (speeds up to 150mph). The car contained a loaded handgun, a 12 year old boy and smelt of weed. He also tried to get away from the cops.

What the fuck.

At long last, Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a contract extension.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports the sides agreed to a four-year, $87.6 million extension, per a source involved in the negotiations. The deal includes a $31 million signing bonus and $60 million in guarantees.

Peter King of The MMQB first reported the news.

The agreement ends an offseason staring contest between the sides, which had set a self-imposed deadline of reaching an agreement before the Seahawks hit the field for training camp on Friday morning.

Around The NFL will have more on Wilson's deal shortly.

I wonder if they gave him more than Aaron Rodgers.

Wilson's $21.9 million annually in new money makes him the second-highest paid quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers ($22 million).[/quote]

So apparently the NFL fed Chris Mortensen false info on Deflategate

Mike Kensil, NFL VP of Game Operations and ex-Jets employee, is apparently the one who leaked it. The Brady destroying his phone thing was also apparently from a high ranking NFL official leaking the info to Stephen A. Smith.

Nah, that part seems to be accurate, its the initial report about the numbers of balls deflated or something who the fuck cares at this point.

So he didn't destroy his phone?

He definitely got rid of his phone, although the narrative that he destroyed it purely out of guilt was fed to Stepehen A. by the NFL. The real issue was them leaking false info about 11 out of 12 of the balls from the Colts game being underinflated by 2 PSI to damage Brady, which was later found to be not true in the Wells Report, but the damage was  already done. Naturally, ESPN will stay away from a lot of this so as not to bite the hand that feeds them. (It's been rumored ESPN tried to tell employees critical of Goodell to tone it down out of fear of getting watered down Monday night games. Coincidentally, Olbermann and Simmons are both gone now.)

Basically, Brady obviously did like his balls underinflated and has more than likely lied, but the NFL has gone out of their way to smear and win the court of public opinion by bending the truth or even lying, probably so Sheriff Rodge can look good and tough for once by bringing the hammer down on an easy target after all the domestic violence failures and general incompetence he's displayed over the past year, and it makes them look petty and shady as fuck. Everyone involved in this whole fiasco just looks so dumb.

As a Jets fan, this is a shame. Sheldon is a young All-Pro caliber player. He probably won't be play a down this season. Hopefully he gets his shit together. I'd hate for him to go to another team, get his shit together, and dominate.

Luckily we still have Wilkerson, and drafted Williams. So our D-Line should still be able to create havoc.

There's that rumor, but there's also the rumor that ESPN doesn't want to set the precedent that journalists (namely Simmons and Olbermann) are bigger than the network.  Those two guys would command so much money, and basically operate in business for themselves, that going forward less guys on ESPN would be able to be kept in line.  It's why Cowherd is also gone, and suddenly they're going "hey this dude might be a tad racist".  He's a lesser name than the other two but had all the negotiating power going in and they just decided to cut him loose, he's getting paid by a company that will now let him rant against black athletes and liberals all day long while ESPN doesn't have to cater to his demands and make him a focal point.

I think there's going to be a long-term exodus from ESPN once a guy reaches a certain level, they don't want people to be bigger than the network.  Whereas Fox Sports, NBC Sports, HBO, maybe others all want a marquee name.  Meanwhile ESPN is the marquee name.  It's also important for them to keep the NFL in their good graces so getting rid of people critical of it is a good idea as well, and probably does go into the process somewhat.

They get watered down Monday night games already.  Sunday Night Football since it launched has been seen as a bigger deal and got better games.  They just moved ESPN's Sunday Night to Monday, and gave it better name recognition.  Same second tier evening games they always got though.
