I'm guessing it's a 'too many mouths to feed' scenario for the Browns. I'm guessing they are rolling with Gordon, Callaway, Landry, Janis and Higgins at WR, plus they have Duke Johnson they can easily flex out. They also have Njoku, DeValve and Fells at TE.

It was apparently a late round pick for Coleman, sounds good to me. Surely he'll produce more than Jordan Matthews did last year.

Edit: A 7th rounder in 2020? Nice.

The only long term commitment the Browns are willing to make is the commitment to always punish their fans.

It’s so sad. The draft is set up to dummy-proof long term suckiness. Look at the Jags. They used their four or five years of shitty play to get guys like Jalen Ramsey. The fact that Cleveland managed to strike out constantly during that span almost makes you think they fucked up on purpose.

What's worse, is that out of those 8 players, I've only heard of 4. And of those four, the only one I associate with the Browns is Coleman and that's because he just barely got traded from them.

And then you remember this year they had two picks in the top 5, and came away with two players who weren't in anyone's top 5 rankings.  I'm still so utterly confused as to why they didn't take Barkley at #1.  Yes, I know they ended up landing Nick Chubb and maybe that will work out well.  But if you're deadset on Baker Mayfield, you can wait until pick 4 for him, or move up a spot if you're really worried.  At #1 overall you take the most talented player.

Unless you're averse to drafting talented players and you can make a strong case that Cleveland is.  Is anyone going to be remotely surprised if Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward end up added to that list in a few years?

Even if they were insistent on going QB first over Barkley, I never understood how Mayfield was ahead of Darnold on their board.  It was just such a Browns move.  I also would've been more accepting of the Barkley pick if Darnold was already gone.  As it is, Barkley and Darnold are going to be compared forever especially since they both went to New York teams.  I may not have agreed with the Barkley selection when they made it, but I do hope he somehow lives up to the ridiculous amount of hype he's been getting.

Given all that the Giants have riding on the Barkley selection, I'm probably going to clench every time he gets tackled this preseason.

Even if Barkley is an all-pro, it's still a bad pick if Darnold is ever a top 10 QB. Not getting a sniff of a Super Bowl without a QB.

I love Eli and he doesn't get near enough credit for the Super Bowl runs, but his days of getting hot in the play-offs are done. Gonna have Odell and Barkley's primes wasted in QB purgatory. I just know it.

I suspect the Giants weren't in love with any of the top QBs. I can sympathize if they know it's gonna take a few years and they can just keep Eli's corpse (or Joe Flacco) under center until then. It's a huge risk to take Barkley there if any of the QBs selected after him (especially Darnold) become stars.

My favorite part of Deadspin's Why Your Team Sucks article on the Bucs

Tampa and St. Pete people will yell at you if you lump them into the same city or if you refer to them as “Tampa Bay” and they never seem to grasp that no one else cares.

The Cleveland Browns continue to hold an interest in Dez Bryant, but are the feelings mutual?

General manager John Dorsey told reporters Thursday the team plans to work out a gaggle of free-agent wideouts next week. Bryant would be among them, but the 29-year-old pass-catcher refuses to make contact with the organization.

"He won't return any phone calls," Dorsey said, per Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer.

"Maybe he's still thinking about other stuff," Dorsey said.

Pre-season has started!
