Well this certainly came out of left field.

I don't know if it's true or not but fwiw it was said the Giants could've matched Rhule's deal but were already in negotiations with Judge. Rhule is said to get 70m plus paying off his buyout.

McCarthy somehow got the Packers job after a season in which his Niners had the 30th ranked offense in the league.

There’s a reason they had the first overall pick the year before he joined them.

You just know that this is going to end with Garrett coaching the Browns now.

Honestly he would be a really good choice for them.  They need stability and consistency and he certainly brings that.  Several 8-8 seasons would be a huge improvement by Browns standards

So the Giants identified Rhule as their clear #1 candidate, yet didn't make a strong enough push to get him in the door first.  In the NFL, if you let your guy interview somewhere else first you're putting yourself at risk that the other team won't let the guy leave without signing his name on the dotted line...and that's pretty much what happened here.  Rhule wanted the Giants to match the huge offer he got from Carolina without even meeting with them.

So instead they hire a guy who coached the Pats' awful WR group this season and will now bring in Garrett as OC.

Fuck this team and double fuck Dave Gettleman.

For a Gettleman hater this might be the best/worst signing. If he isn't this "special, highly thought of candidate" then Gettleman will most likely be gone within a season or two.

Now Rhule getting a God contract is interesting - 7 years 60 mil. Either Tepper has too much money for his own good or Matt Rhule is the second coming of both Bill's combined.

This gave me an image in my head of Bill Walsh and Bill Belichick doing the Dragonball Z Fusion Dance

I do love that McDaniels went from being linked to seemingly every open job to literally only having the Browns as an option.

The Browns should be a dream job for any NFL coach. If they continue to suck, nothing you can do about it, it's the Browns. But, if you some how get them into the playoffs? You'd be considered a genius for the rest of your career.
