Makes sense, they've been shopping him all summer. Dude is physically gifted but has a lot of drops and can't stay healthy, though.

Tying down your most valuable asset is insane? OK then...

Not when your most valuable asset hasn't done squat and you're tying up that much cap room. Some of that money could have gone toward trying to make the team better, not rewarding a slightly better than mediocre QB who can't even get you deep into the playoffs.

And who are you plugging in at quarterback when San Francisco sign over their franchise for the guy in the offseason? Sure you could use the money for other players, but it's not like you're going to find anyone worth a shit for a whole lot less money anyway.

Also the whole quarterback argument thing isn't as black and white as stats versus winning. You can make that the argument but it's incredibly flawed if you take it to either extreme. Sure winning a championship is important, but I dare any of you to actually admit Trent Dilfer or Doug Williams are better than Dan Marino, simply because they won championships.

Whether he's accomplished anything or not doesn't matter at all. It's what your alternative can accomplish if you cut him loose. So if you don't want to pay him that much you better have a viable backup plan otherwise your tenure as GM will end shortly after making that decision.

The price on a QB is insane, and goes up with the cap. So next year Cousins will get his massive deal and then the year after Winston and Mariota will. It's just the way it works with QBs in this day and age. The alternative is always a worse place. This isn't an Osweiler or Glennon situation where a guy is capitalizing on a team with no QB, it's a team with a QB needing to lock him up and the only way to do that is to make him that rich.

If they traded Haden to a team, that team would've had a total cap hit for almost $34 million over 3 years. That's a lot to take on for a talented corner with injury issues the last 3 years.

That being said, I wish the Eagles could've figured out a way to pull that off or at least jumped on signing him when he hit the market. Could be huge for Pittsburgh if he stays healthy.

Sign yet another big name CB who will probably be another disappointment?  Hard pass on that one
