I'm not saying that the stats in this game are inherently bollocks but my keeper just booted a goal kick upfield, the opposing CB headed it and it bounced to another opposition player who lost control and it fell to my forward who chipped the keeper from 20 yards. My keeper got the assist.

Assists in fm always go the last person in your team to touch the ball. Say one of your players hits the crossbar and someone scores on the rebound. The guy who hit the crossbar will get the assist. Also if you score a penalty kick it will go to the player who was fouled.
